Sixhand Painting artists Reiner Gramlich, Eckhard Zylla, and Michael Manning were invited to exhibit and create new collaborative works in Munich, Germany. The event, sponsored by Heim & Handwerk marks the seventh anniversary of the group's formation. To celebrate the Sixhand painters' first meeting and on-going collaboration, they painted a 13 meter flag for the city of Munich. In the spring of 2008, this flag will be given as a gift to the city of Cincinnati, Ohio by the mayor of Munich, Burgermeister C. Ude. Materials and flag were donated by the Rainbow Project. Sixhand Painting created the flag over a two week period, using it as a typical canvas. In addition, they developed other pieces, representing some of their most successful collaboration to date. The exhibition also included recent works from each individual artist. The group will meet again this spring when the flag is presented and displayed, and they are also scheduled to collaborate again this summer in Italy. Sixhand Painting/Grazyman is an international group of three artists working together on collaborative abstract paintings. The group had their first meeting in Munich, Germany in December of 2000 and now meet several times each year to work and exhibit. Currently, the group works and exhibits in Germany, Italy, and the USA. All three artists work together on each painting, and the painting process involves each artist responding to what the other artists have started. The paintings are then exhibited as one body of work. The term Sixhand refers to the number of hands involved in creating the work, and Grazyman comes from parts of each artist's last name. Reiner Gramlich lives and works in Germany and France, Eckhard Zylla lives and works in Germany and Italy, and Michael Manning lives and works in the US. |
